Free Sample of our September Newsletter: Young People and Education
What church leaders need to know about young people and education trends today.
Young people today face several obstacles in their pursuit of an education and a meaningful career. Though a major obstacle in this regard is the ever-increasing cost of college tuition and fees, not all costs are financial. In fact, a recent UNESCO report details the “Ed-Tech Tragedy” brought on by school closures and the rapid adoption of technologically-mediated education programs during the Covid-19 era. One key takeaway: rapid education-technology adoption supercharged existing education inequalities and had a major, negative impact worldwide.
These and other trends have led young people to question the value of higher ed, and while most young people claim that they want to pursue a college education, many are seriously considering other options for the near to medium-term future.
This month’s newsletter will dive into some of these trends: what young people are looking for when it comes to a college education, how they plan to pay for it, and more. We’ll explore the proper end (telos, or goal) of an education and how developing an understanding of education’s purpose is necessary if we are to support young people today. Lastly, we’ll offer some ideas for churches that want to help young people as they pursue their education while also addressing some of the systemic barriers to their success today.
