Stat of the day:
77% of young people (ages 13-39) like to cook.
Why it matters:
As Gen Z reaches early adulthood and Millennials enter their working prime, both generations are spending more time in the kitchen to save money and because they like it.
What can we do?
The church could use this interest in cooking, together with the often expansive kitchen resources of many parishes, to sponsor intergenerational fellowship events.
Try it:
Gather popular recipes and the best chefs in the parish, then host a joint event with the youth and young adult cohorts where they can learn how to cook local delights from more experienced cooks. Consider combining such an event, or series of events, with discussions on the relationship between food and theology. Norman Wirzba’s Food and Faith provides many jumping-off points for such discussions.
